Toscana, figlia e nipote di cantanti, con i quali si è formata musicalmente, debutta a
soli 22 anni alla Wiener Staatsoper come Konstanze in Die Entfuehrung aus dem
Serail, ruolo con cui aveva appena vinto il Concorso Mozart (1990). È l’inizio di una
brillante carriera che la vede protagonista per oltre due decenni nei maggiori teatri
europei e mondiali. Raffinata esecutrice del Belcanto italiano come Bellini, Rossini,
Donizetti e Verdi, non ha mai abbandonato il repertorio mozartiano interpretando
tutte le sue opere nei ruoli principali. Negli anni recenti, accanto ai suoi cavalli di
battaglia quali Donna Anna in Don Giovanni eseguita a München, Amsterdam,
Zurigo, Palermo e Torino, Contessa ne Le nozze di Figaro al Teatro Regio di Parma,
al Festival di Cartagena e al NNTT di Tokyo e Alice in Falstaff a Tel Aviv ed al
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino con Zubin Mehta, al Festival di Lucerna con i
Bamberger Symphoniker e Jonathan Nott, al Teatro alla Scala con Daniele Gatti, al
Teatro San Carlo di Napoli con Pinchas Steinberg e al NNTT con Carlo Rizzi, si è
esibita fra le altre come Violetta ne La traviata con Zubin Mehta a Tel Aviv ed al
Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Elisa ne Il re pastore eseguita e incisa a Vienna con
Harnoncourt e Adalgisa in Norma, eseguita ed incisa a Ravenna con Muti ed a
Montecarlo con Fasolis al fianco di Cecilia Bartoli, e con la quale sarà in Giappone
col tour del Teatro Massimo di Palermo, etc. In campo sinfonico è stata ospite delle
principali Orchestre fra le quali la National de Paris con Daniele Gatti, quella del
Festival di Salisburgo per la Petite Messe Solennelle con Antonio Pappano e la
Filarmonica della Scala nella tournèe asiatica della IX Sinfonia di Beethoven con
Myung Wun Chung. Alla carriera operistica e concertistica ha da sempre affiancato la
cameristica, esibendosi in recitals e concerti nelle più prestigiose sale del mondo.
Appassionata anche dalla didattica, tiene regolarmente Masterclasses in Italia, Israele
e Giappone e dalla stagione 2016/17 è docente presso l’Accademia del Teatro alla
Scala di Milano.
Ha collaborato con direttori quali Claudio Abbado, Vladimir Askenazy, Daniel
Barenboim, William Christie, Myung Wun Chung, Colin Davis, Iván Fischer, Daniele
Gatti, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi, Peter Maag, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta,
Riccardo Muti, Jonathan Nott, Antonio Pappano, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Franz Welser-
Möst. Fra i suoi impegni recenti e futuri, gli interessanti debutti quali Leonora nella
donizettiana Rosmonda d’Inghilterra al Festival Donizetti di Bergamo ed al Maggio
Musicale Fiorentino e nelle nuove produzioni del Teatro alla Scala
come Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus e Aithra in Die Aegyptische Helena. Inoltre
ancora Vitellia ne La clemenza di Tito al Verdi di Trieste e al Palau de les Artes di
Valencia ed Alice al Mostly Mozart Festival al Lincoln Center di NYC e al Festival di
Lucerna e al Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza con il tour della Budapest Festival Orchestra
con Ivan Fisher.
Daughter and grandaughter of singers, with whom she trained musically, Eva Mei
made her debut at the Wiener Staatsoper at the age of 22 as Konstanze in Die
Entfuehrung aus dem Serail, a role with which she had just won the Mozart
Competition (1990). It is the beginning of a brilliant career that sees her protagonist
for over two decades in the major European and world theaters. Refined performer of
Italian Belcanto like Bellini, Rossini, Donizetti and Verdi, she never left the Mozart
repertoire by interpreting all his main roles. In recent years, alongside her workhorses
such as Donna Anna in Don Giovanni performed in München, Amsterdam, Zurich,
Palermo and Turin, Countess in The Marriage of Figaro at the Teatro Regio di
Parma, the Cartagena Festival and in Tokyo NNTT and Alice in Falstaff in Tel Aviv
and at Maggio Musicale Fiorentino with Zubin Mehta, at the Lucerne Festival with
the Bamberger Symphoniker and Jonathan Nott, at La Scala with Daniele Gatti, at
San Carlo in Naples with Pinchas Steinberg and at the NNTT with Carlo Rizzi, she
performed among others Violetta in La traviata with Zubin Mehta in Tel Aviv and at
the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Elisa in Il re pastore performed and recorded in
Vienna with Harnoncourt and Adalgisa in Norma, performed and recorded in
Ravenna with Muti and in Montecarlo with Fasolis alongside Cecilia Bartoli, with
whom she will be in Japan with the tour of the Teatro Massimo of Palermo. In the
symphonic repertoire she was a guest of the main orchestras including the National
de Paris with Daniele Gatti, the one of the Salzburg Festival for the Petite Messe
Solennelle with Antonio Pappano and the Filarmonica della Scala on the Asian tour
of the IX Symphony of Beethoven with Myung Wun Chung . Besides the operatic
and symphonic repertoire she has dedicated herself also to the chamber music by
performing in recitals and concerts in the most prestigious halls in the world. Also
passionate about teaching, she regularly holds Masterclasses in Italy, Israel and Japan
and since the 2016/17 season she is a teacher at the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala
